Olivia is seven!!

Our beautiful first born child is seven!! She has grown up so much in the past year. Her reading has taken off, and she reads Fairy Magic chapter books so much that even though there are 228 of them and Wake County has an extensive collection, we are delving into the inter library loan method. (In December her teacher let me know that she was testing on a third grade reading level, which is great for her to be able to read books she is interested in.)

Olivia's talent on the violin is amazing to me, probably in part because I am ignorant of music, and the other part because there is so much to learning a new song--reading the sheet music, figuring out which string to play and finger position, and understanding where the bow should go and how it should move. I am so impressed!

Olivia loves playing with her friends from our block after she finishes a snack and her homework after school. And sometimes she loves just playing with her brothers and specifically sticks with them even when her friends are playing. This warms my heart!

Olivia is such a good eater, setting a good example for her brothers to eat their fruits and vegetables. She shies away from too much sweets, too!

Poor Olivia got strep throat on the weekend of her birthday party, so we had to cancel. Then on the weekend of her birthday when she was camping with her Y Guides tribe with Nicholas, she got a bad stomach bug and had to come home early. Even on her birthday, she felt terrible. I ended up taking her to the ER because she was groaning with stomach pain, had a fever, and fell asleep on the couch when I was talking to her. It wasn't an appendicitis, thankfully. When we were at the hospital, I told her we would do something special to make up for her being sick on her birthday. She said, "It wasn't so bad, Mama. I got three popsicles!" I love the optimism of youth! It reminds me how magical childhood is even when we adults aren't trying to make it so.
