So, today Olivia started a Mom's Morning Out program at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Tuscaloosa. I don't think that I have blogged about the impetus of this, which was that Nicholas had work responsibilities so much last semester that I had to miss going in to work several times because he couldn't watch Olivia. We decided it would be best to try some kind of very part-time daycare for socialization for Olivia and for a set time for me to go to work. This is great for me because I won't have to work at night so much. This is great for Olivia so that she meets other people outside of our very small family here. Olivia and I looked at the program several times in December (but I never left her), and every time Olivia seemed happy there. The room she is in has only one other baby, Hall, who is Olivia's age. The woman who takes care of them is named Jessica; she is mid-twenties and working on her master's in early childhood development. Olivia really likes her.
After all that build-up, I can say that it went great! I was a little nervous, but I just tried not to think about it. After taking Olivia in and taking off her coat and settling her things, I said, "Good bye, Olivia. Mama loves you. I'll see you in a few hours." Then I left. Olivia didn't cry, which was a relief for me. They told me that Olivia was really good, and only fussed when she had to take her nap because she was distracted by Hall. She kept peaking out of her crib at him. So, hooray! Success!
I am definitely taking her on Thursdays because that is the morning I go into work. (The program is 8:15 - 12:00.) We've paid for Tuesdays, as well, and I am going to work up to twice a week. Maybe I can do it this Tuesday; maybe not. We'll see. It would be nice to have that time to work from home so that I only have to work two nights a week. We'll see!
And I just want to give Nicholas a shout out because he has made dinner twice since we have been home from vacation. When I am giving Olivia her bath, Nicholas has been coming in and talking to her. Then when I put her down, Nicholas started dinner. Awesome!
I'm glad you guys are finding a groove!
ReplyDeleteJust remember, the transition into MMO is much, much harder for you than for her. When and if she cries when you drop her off, she'll stop about two minutes after you are gone! I promise.
Yay! I'm glad it went well :)
