Friday funnies

OLIVIA and LEO

  • One morning as I was trying to get Leo dressed before school, he ran to the garage door where Olivia was waiting on us.
    • Olivia: Leo, can I tell you something?
    • Leo: I'm naked boy!
    • Olivia: Modesty.
  • One of Olivia's thoughts one day. She obviously thinks that she will grow up, but expects Leo to stay the same age!
    • Olivia: When I grow up and I'm a mommy and you're not in the house, I'll take care of Leo!
    • Leo: No!! You're Olivia.
  • Last night when I was exhausted from a long day, Leo threw the fingernail clippers I was trying to use on him. I put him in time out in his room. When I came back to the living room, Olivia said this.
    • Olivia: Mom, I know Leo can be hard sometimes.
    • Me:(laughing) You're right.
    • Olivia: Like when we were in the backyard today and he wasn't doing what I was telling him. So, I know he can be hard.

It feels like summer!

It feels like summer in Alabama! At least most of the time! Here are some pictures of what we've been up to!

Swimming! We went for the first time to the big pool in our neighborhood on Mother's Day. It was a big cold, but the kids didn't care. We've been back three more times, and they are doing great with their confidence "swimming" in their puddle jumpers. I know I should force Olivia to take her's off, but I'll work on that later in the summer. She loves to have me give her swim lessons, so I think she will be open to swimming on her own soon!

Since Nicholas had his surgery last Thursday, I have been trying to get us out of the house a lot so Nicholas can rest. We went one day last week to play at the mall. That mall is honestly a bit gross, but my kids love the 25 cent candy, running around the fountains, and playing on the play cars! Here are my firemen!

We hit the zoo on Sunday and we all had a great time, despite a bit of rain. Leo and Olivia LOVED the sea lion named Gio, but that was the one thing I did not get a picture of!

We've been having lots of playdates with friends we are going to miss, and we have been enjoying our backyard. Less than two weeks in this place! The time has flown by!  We'll miss it!

Visitors!

Jane came in for Olivia's birthday last Wednesday, stayed for Olivia's recital on Saturday, and then left on Mother's Day after her boyfriend Jefferey came down to meet us and meet her to take her to meet his family in Birmingham. It was great to have Mutti here to play with the kids and to visit with! We had lots of tea parties, Lego building, games of Operation, puzzles, and just being silly!

Jefferey was also a hit! Leo showed him all around the house, told him his full name: Leonidas Alexander, and asked him to help with his Thomas puzzle. Olivia was slower to warm up, but when Jefferey said, "Thank you, ma'am" when Olivia gave offered him a plate for his brownie, she was sold. Then she asked him to play Operation after lunch.

Thanks for coming, Mutti! We're looking forward to a visit from you and Jeffery in NC!

Olivia's first ballet recital!!

Olivia had her first ballet recital on Saturday! The theme of it was "Peter Pan" and her class did their dance to "Wendy." The girls were darling and all did so well! I recorded her dance on dress rehearsal day when she didn't do as well, but you can get the gist of the dance here:

Here are some photos of my sweet girl in her costume, which is what she liked best about recital! That and gossiping with her friends backstage about whose costume looked most like Elsa. It starts early!

Olivia really did learn a lot of ballet this year, although I can't tell you what all it was. But I can tell from the way she dances around the house that she had fun and learned new ways to move and hold her body. She also learned to take direction and criticism from someone else and learned more life lessons of getting along with others, patience, and practice makes perfect! All valuable! I'm glad she did it, but I was sure glad when it was over!

The only picture of Olivia actually on recital day! She had glitter in her hair, was smiling and happy, and was glad to get roses from Mutti and Daddy!

Olivia is FOUR!!

Olivia seems so grown up to me, so that she is four isn't so surprising. That four years have past since her birth is at once shocking since the time has past so quickly, but also because it seems like she has been in our life for much longer than that! If you want a walk down memory lane, see her birth story here, her first birthday post here, her second birthday post here, and her third birthday post here. Wow!! How much growing she has done!!

Some quick facts about Olivia:

  1. Olivia weighs 40 pounds.
  2. Olivia loves Frozen music, but finds the movie way too scary.
  3. Olivia is totally into Doc McStuffins.
  4. Olivia is sounding out three-four letter words, can count to about fifty, and has a great vocabulary.
  5. Olivia is 43.5 inches tall, which is the 97th percentile--tall like her Daddy!1

Her birthday was fun! She woke early, and in Kraft tradition, she opened her presents right away! (At least those from us and Grandpa Bill and Tamara.) She loved them and insisted on wearing her dress-up outfit to school complete with fancy shoes!

I brought strawberries and chocolate dipped pretzels for a birthday snack in Olivia's class. She was so excited I was there and helped pass out the pink plates and napkins. I forgot my phone in the car, so I didn't get any pictures. As expected, she didn't want to stay at school after that, so she and I went, at her request, to Barnes and Noble for some girl time. She picked out about seven books, sat down, and looked through them by herself with me sitting beside her for about twenty minutes. Then she asked me to read one. Then she asked me to buy two. I has happy to oblige!

Mutti came for our family birthday party that afternoon! Before dinner, a wonderful game of Candy Land and some "check-ups"! Olivia loves the Doc McStuffins outfit and doctor bag from Grandpa Bill and Tamara! Leo does, too!

Olivia wanted to have pancake kabobs for dinner, so that is what we did! Of course, Miss Birthday Girl was done with pictures by then!

Here are some pictures of the kids with presents! Olivia was totally enamored with the ballet card!

Uncle Chuck sent a Minnie and Mickey from Disney World. Olivia loves Minnie. Leo LOVES them both and has slept with them for the past two nights. Here he is pretending this is Mickey Mouse's club house!

Olivia and I both love this sundress from Aunt Heidi!

Friday funnies

OLIVIA and LEO

  • When Olivia opened her present from Grandma Dorothy--the hand made dress pictured above--Leo said he wanted a dress, too, as he put the tissue paper from the box over his head. Nicholas tucked it into his pants and made a "skirt."
    • Leo: I look like a princess!!!
    • Olivia: You look more like a waitress.

OLIVIA

  • In the bathtub with her Barbie mermaid toy for the first time after getting it.
    • Olivia: She's not swimming!! What's wrong with her?
    • Me: The box said she can't swim on her own.
    • Olivia: But I'm here! She's not alone.
