Easter 2014, in pictures

I've been doing a terrible job of recording all we've been doing. We went to the Easter Egg hunt with 2400 eggs the day before Easter, and although we had a great time in bounce houses, slides, and playing games, the kids actually listened to me when I told them to be respectful of the people around them at the egg hunt. They, collectively, collected five eggs! Ha! It worked out well since I then allowed them to sit down and eat all their candy!! I got no pictures because Nicholas stayed home to get house and work stuff done, and I forgot my phone in the van.

For Easter, the kids had fun with their baskets, the special breakfast of sausage in rolls, and later the first sprinkler day of the year! No good pictures since I wasn't on it when they first opened their baskets or as they did their in-house egg hunt. But here are some that I did get. Hooray for sunshine!

Daddy was getting out the hose. This is a candid photo of Olivia and Leo sticking together. I love that they love each other!

The NC house hunt!! Spoiler alert: We bought a house!!

We bought a beautiful house in NC!! I can hardly believe we pulled it off! For the interested, you can see pictures of the new house, which is not yet complete, here!

I am tired, so I am not going to go into excruciating detail here, but suffice to say that house hunting with a 2-year-old and 3-year-old is just not a good idea. Add in that you are trying to sell said 2- and 3-year-old on the place by making the trip fun, and you have totally exhausted and stressed parents. We saw lots of houses--Nicholas more than I since I took kids back to the hotel for naps and resting two of the three days. And we did lots of fun stuff--swimming in the hotel pool once or twice a day, going to a great park called Pullen park that has a train, carousel, kiddie boats, paddle boats, playgrounds and picnic areas two evenings. And we ate out a lot, which the kids didn't get sick of! And most importantly, we found a house!! It's in Cary, NC technically since the area of Apex where it is located has been annexed by Cary. However, it still has an Apex address. Nicholas and I have signed all the paper work, so it is just a bit away and we will be the proud owners of two houses! (Please sell, Northport house!!)

Friday funnies

I absolutely realize that these are much cuter in person coming out in sweet kids' voices, and perhaps much cuter just to me who is watching these two grow into little people right before my eyes. I am glad just to write this down to keep for my own heart!

LEO

  • Each night before bed, Leo often airs his grievances. These two came out two nights after we got home from our house-hunting trip to NC, where we went to a park in Raleigh with a carrousel.
    • Leo: And I yelled STOP!! But they wouldn't let me on. And that made me sad.
    • Me: Leo, we just had to wait our turn. Then they let us on.
    • Leo: And that made me happy! .... But I wanted blue Gatorade and they gave us yellow. (Referring to a rest area machine from our trip home.)
    • Me: Maybe next time we can get blue Gatorade.
    • Leo: Yeah! That makes me happy!
  • Whenever Leo wants me to let him do something, this is how the conversation goes.
    • Leo: I may have another cookie? Say, "Yes, you may!"
    • Me: (I either allow it or dash his hopes.)

OLIVIA

Olivia likes to play teacher. I add this into our reading lessons in the afternoons sometimes by letting her be the teacher teaching her dolls how to read. Usually word families. Here is one where Miss Rose is teaching the "at" family.

  • Olivia learned about the Easter story this year almost less than last year. Last year she was totally upset when her teacher taught using Ressurection Eggs. I actually called her teacher this year in advance because I worried how Olivia was going to take it. I just wanted to be sure that if she was afraid or nervous for Jesus that she could go to another room. I shouldn't have worried. A snippet from our after-school conversation this week.
    • Olivia: And Jesus had a friend named Judas who took him to the Olive Garden. He wasn't a very good friend. And I giggled about that!
  • Olivia continues to be entranced by birds and our bird feeders. One day while we were admiring a beautiful gold finch, she said
    • Olivia: I wish I were a bird so I could perch on the bird feeder upside down!
  • Olivia only wants to wear dresses now. No tights, no leggings, really no shoes. One day on the way to the playground she lamented that she wasn't wearing a dress for the 100th time. Trying to drive the point home that I am the boss and what I say goes, I said
    • Me: Do you get everything you want?
    • Olivia: Yes.
    • Me: (I went on to tell her that she doesn't, but I thought, "I am not doing a very good job. Ugh!")

Day Out with Thomas, 2014

Even a rainy day and Daddy having to stay home to finish the "Realtor to do" list couldn't dampen our spirits for visiting Thomas the Train!! The kids had a blast at Calera's Heart of Dixie Railway Museum seeing and riding Thomas. I only got random pictures and videos, but we will definitely be doing this again next year!! (Thomas travels the country!)

When we got there, we pumped the push cart. I couldn't get a picture of it because I was on it and pumping, but you can barely see it in the distance in the first picture. Leo was mesmorized with Thomas because his mouth moved and he "spoke."

There were lots of little activities for the kids to do like bubbles and sand boxes while we waited for the train.

Aren't they cute getting on together?!

Leo didn't like that the conductor took part of his ticket!

But was excited to be on the train!!

It started raining hard right after we left the train and did the bouncy house. Fortunately, there were four big tent areas with things to do: play trains, legos, stamp and color engines, shop, see Sir Topham Hat, and eat.

After doing all those things, we walked out, but Leo did not understand why we couldn't ride Thomas again, especially when Thomas just spoke to him and told him to get on board!!

In fact, Leo had such a great time that he woke three times during that night screaming hysterically about wanting to go back to see Thomas. I had to rock and hold him and explain that it was the middle of the night. We even opened the curtains to show him. He must have been dreaming of Thomas!!

The big news is that we are moving to North Carolina!! Hooray! Nicholas starts his new job there this summer, so we are in the throws of selling our house and finding a new one! Check out how unbelievably clean and tidy our place looked this morning for pictures! We have been busting it for the past three days getting everything perfect!
